Skechers, the American lifestyle and performance footwear company, will further expand its intralogistics within their European Distribution Center in Liège (Belgium). Inther Group was once again asked to realize this expansion so that the necessary capacity for the growing demand within Europe remains guaranteed.

8 kilometers of technology
Within the 128,000 square meter distribution center, 3.5 kilometers of completely new conveyor technology will be installed, creating a total of 8 kilometers of roller conveyors. In addition, a double-sided Natrix shoesorter (with a capacity of over 6,700 boxes per hour), two Inther Conveyor Equipment scales with dimensioner and two High Performance Transfer switches with a capacity of approximately 2,600 boxes per hour will be added. Paul Hermsen – General manager at Inther Group: “We have been working together with Skechers for years. With this expansion, they are prepared for the future and assured of an optimal intralogistics environment”.

Growth requires more automation
From the Skechers European Distribution Center (EDC) all channels are served: the customer of the own webshop, the Skecher Retail Stores, and the wholesale customers. Sophie Houtmeyers, VP Distribution Operations: “Skechers Europe, but also worldwide, anticipates further growth in the coming years and that is why we opted for an expansion of the automation in the EDC. Our satisfaction with the current systems encourages us to address the same partners.”

Go-live November 2019
Inther Group is responsible for the entire engineering and control (PLC controls) of this solution. It is expected that this expansion will be taken into use by Skechers next year, November 2019.
